Top Hotels in San Diego - Top 10 Ranked

San Diego

If you'd like to know which are the top hotels in San Diego I am going to rank for you the top 10 hotels in San Diego based on stars and reviews.

San Diego is one of the top destinations for summer vacations with the San Diego Zoo and Sea World being the top draws for tourists. San Diego is famous for it's naval base and near perfect weather. In Fact the weather is referred to as paradise weather because there is over 300 days of sunshine annually, only about 6 inches of rain and the average high temperature in summer is only 77 and winter is 65. It is about as perfect of a climate you could possibly want.

While the U.S. Navy has had a presence in San Diego for over 100 years, recent focus of local development has spread into more tourism and technology businesses to lessen the area's dependence on the Navy.

For being such a large city with a metro population over 3 million, San Diego is also one of the safest cities in America. In recent years San Diego has been rated the 5th wealthiest city in the U.S. and the 5th best place to live. With so much going for it, it isn't hard to understand why San Diego has exploded in growth over the last 20 years. As a result, housing prices have soared to over $600,000 median in 2007 forcing many people to move to further outlying areas and commuting long distances to work in San Diego.

Tourism in San Diego brings in over 30 million tourists and over 15 billion dollars a year to the local economy. San Diego is a major cruise ship port for winter cruises as well.

Well all those tourists have to stay somewhere, and that's where my ranking of the top 10 best hotels in San Diego comes in. If you are planning a trip to sunny San Diego and want to stay at an excellent resort hotel I think you will find this list helpful.

By studying several review sources and combining them with the stars of each hotel I produced what I believe is a very accurate ranking of the top 10 best hotels in the San Diego Area.

Here they are...

1. The Grand Del Mar

2. Lodge At Torrey Pines

3. Park Hyatt Aviara Resort and Spa

4. US Grant

5. L'Auberge Del Mar

6. Westgate Hotel

7. Omni San Diego

8. Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa

10. Hyatt Regency La Jolla

I've found Hotelclub.com to be the best hotel booking site, not only are the rates typically the lowest on resorts, you also get...

*Best Price Guarantee
*Most reviews of hotels
*Get up to 7% back on every booking (shown at the bottom of each listing)

There you have the top 10 best hotels in San Diego. Some of these hotels are not in San Diego proper but in nearby cities like La Jolla. The Del Mar is about as nice of a hotel you could possibly want and just won Trip Advisor's 2012 Traveler's Choice Award as the top hotel in the U.S. The Del Mar and Lodge at Torrey Pines are both AAA five diamond resorts, the best you can get. There is a nice video of the Grand Del Mar below.

If you're interested I have also ranked the top 10 hotels in Cabo San Lucas and the top 10 hotels in Whistler.

I hope this ranking of the top hotels in San Diego helps you to plan a great vacation!
